About the Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode text or any file to Base64, URL-safe Base64 (Base64url) or a data: URL, and decode Base64 back to text. Decoding accepts standard and URL-safe alphabets with or without padding, and binary results are shown as hex instead of garbled text.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between Base64 and Base64url?
- Base64url replaces + and / with - and _ and usually drops the = padding, so the result is safe in URLs and filenames. JWTs use Base64url.
- Does it handle Unicode and emoji?
- Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 first, so any character round-trips correctly.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser tab with JavaScript. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, and the page works offline once loaded.
