About the Hash Generator
Compute MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of text or of a file, in lowercase hex, uppercase hex or Base64. Paste a published checksum to confirm that a download matches. Files are hashed locally, however large.
How to use it
- Type text or choose a file.
- Pick the output format.
- Copy a hash, or paste an expected checksum to verify it.
Frequently asked questions
- Which hash should I use?
- SHA-256 for checksums and integrity. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes; use them only to match legacy checksums. For passwords, use a dedicated algorithm such as Argon2 or bcrypt, not a plain hash.
- Why is my hash different from another tool’s?
- Usually because of a trailing newline or different text encoding. This tool hashes exactly the UTF-8 bytes you enter.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Everything runs in your browser tab with JavaScript. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged or stored, and the page works offline once loaded.
